Can You Change The Color Of Your Hardwood Floors?

If you've designed hardwood floors, that's another story. The middle one is with red mahogany stain, and the right one is with ebony stain (although usually in real life the ebony stain looks a little lighter and shows the grain a little more than this photo leads you to believe). This is why it is very important to test the colors of the dyes because they are different in the photos from what they appear in the real light. And, are the colors of the stains actually different on everyone's floors. This can vary depending on the species, is it red oak or white oak, the quality as well as the age of the floors, their aging as well as the lighting. As you can see in these pictures some boards are lighter some are darker, the stain will be absorbed differently and you want to test on a small area to see what works best on your floor. If you see sand and you touch it up it will look a little lighter than that just from the sanding, but over time the light and the natural aging process will look like it does moment. And, as you can see in the photo on the right (even though it's not the best photo), that's the end result. We tested a few different stains and found that on his floor, Dark Walnut was the darkest. It does a good job of drowning out the red, but there are still some underlying red tones, if you look closely enough.

I've always loved the shabby chic, country house look... and I'm absolutely in love with pale and lighter colored wood floors. I don't have the money to replace my hardwood floors, unfortunately. I want them to be lighter...somehow resembling whitewashed parquet, ideally. I need a solution that's affordable, not too difficult, and most importantly, will end up looking good.
